These Official Rules (“Rules”) govern the operation of the Simi Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) Minecraft Challenge. Simi Valley Education Foundation, Simi Valley, CA 93063, USA is the official challenge sponsor (“Sponsor”).

  • DEFINITIONS

In these Rules, “Simi Valley Education Foundation”, “we”, “our”, and “us” refer to Sponsor and “you” and “yourself” refers to a Challenger participant, or the parent/legal guardian of any Challenger entrant who has not reached the age of 18 to contractually obligate themselves in their legal place of residence. By entering you (or your parent/legal guardian if you are not 18 yrs or older) agree to be bound by these Rules.

  • CHALLENGE DESCRIPTION:

The Simi Valley Education Foundation – Minecraft Challenge is a skill-based Contest. The goal of the Challenge is to Celebrate the Simi Valley Community (Students, Teachers, Parents/Legal Guardians and Businesses) by inspiring the development of creative design solutions in Minecraft and creating a futuristic Simi Valley community. The fundraising challenge will conclude (for those joining to donate & win prizes), with (5) winning teams all together (broken down by age).

Grand Prize Winner  / 1 Winner (Individual & Group Team)

Individuals & Group Teams:

  1. Ages 7-13 / 1 Winner
  2. Ages 14-17 / 1 Winner
  3. Ages 18+  / 1 Winner

Sim Valley Business Team:

Ages 18+ / 1 Winner

Each Simi Valley Education Foundation – Minecraft Challenge project, that teams build and submit in the Challenge, will be called an “entry.”  All eligible entries received will be judged using the criteria described below to determine the winners of the prizes described below.

  1. ENTRY PERIOD

This Challenger submission period starts at 12:00am PST on Wednesday – 19 November 2020 and ends at 11:59pm PST on Sunday – January 4, 2021 (“Entry Period”). Entries must be received during the Entry Period to be eligible.

  • ELIGIBILITY

This is a closed contest open only to Simi Valley community (i.e. residents and businesses within the Simi Valley, CA as well as current Simi Valley students and teachers). To participate, the Team participant(s) must have registered for the Challenge by submitting an entry here: https://www.cognitoforms.com/SimiValleyEducationFoundation/MinecraftChallengeRegistration

In addition, to be eligible, you must meet the following requirements at the time of entry (submission):

  • You are a Simi Valley Community Member (i.e. resident, student, teacher, business owner)
  • Each Team Member must be between seven (7) and ninety-nine (99) years of age at time of entry, a legal resident of U.S. and are a part of the Simi Valley community.
  • NOTE: If registrant is between 7-18 yrs of age they must provide consent from legal guardian for their entry to be eligible.

3.       HOW TO ENTER

To enter the Challenge for FREE, the participant must take the following steps:

By completing the registration form and submitting your materials to minecraftchallenge@svef.org, you agree that your project follows these rules, including the requirements set forth below, and acknowledge that Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may remove your project and disqualify you from the Challenge if it determines, in its sole discretion, that your project fails to conform to these Rules or any applicable requirements, guidelines, or restrictions.

We are not responsible for entries that we do not receive during the Challenge submission period, regardless of reason or fault, or for entries that we receive but are not reasonably decipherable for any reason.

We will automatically disqualify any Challenger participant’s entries which are: incomplete or illegible or exceed the entry limit described above.

In order to be eligible for entry into the Challenge, an entry must meet the following content/technical requirements:

  • Project Submission to be sent to: minecraftchallenge@svef.org
  •  
  • A PowerPoint or Google slide deck that includes:
    • Game Recording of the project (maximum length 3 minutes) with no PII information as part of the video, sharing only the team name, school, and country.
    • Brief description of the team’s project including how their space celebrates Simi Valley and what they are displaying in their world that is futuristic.
    • What the team learned as part of their involvement. Did they learn anything about coding within Minecraft or did they make anything new with their Crafting table?
    • Extra Credit: Use at least one of the following hashtags in your Minecraft World: #SVEF #CelebrateSimi #ThankfulSimi

In addition:

  • Your entry must be built without paid MODS.  However, you can use command blocks and we encourage you to use the Education Edition / Mode (if you can – it’s not required).  Any video submission must be solely the work of the Team Members, including but not limited to, the actual filming, editing, graphic design, etc. of the Game Recording.
  • Your entry cannot have been selected as a winner in any other Minecraft Challenge.
  • You must have obtained any and all consents, approvals, or licenses required for you to submit your entry or any content contained therein.
  • To the extent that your entry requires the submission of user-generated content such as software, photos, videos, music, artwork, essays, etc., entrants warrant that their entry is their original work, has not been copied from others without permission or necessary rights, and does not violate the privacy, intellectual property rights, or other rights of any other person or entity.
  • Your entry may NOT contain, as determined by us in our sole and absolute discretion, any content that is obscene or offensive, violent, defamatory, disparaging or illegal, or that promotes alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco or a particular political agenda, or that communicates messages that may reflect negatively on the goodwill of Simi Valley Education Foundation (SVEF).

We reserve the right to reject any entry, in our sole and absolute discretion, that we determine does not meet the above criteria.

We claim no ownership rights in or to your Challenge entry. However, by submitting an entry, you grant us an irrevocable, royalty-free, worldwide right and license to use, review, assess, test and otherwise analyze your entry and all its content in connection with this Challenge and use your entry in any media whatsoever now known or later invented for any non-commercial or commercial purpose, including, but not limited to, the marketing, sale or promotion of Simi Valley Education Foundation, without further permission from you. You will not receive any compensation or credit for use of your entry, other than what is described in these Rules and you agree to sign any necessary documentation that may be required for us and our designees to make use of the rights you granted above.   

By entering your submission you agree to it being made available to Simi Valley Education Foundation outside of the judging pool for additional marketing purposes.

Your entry may be posted on a public website. We are not responsible for any unauthorized use of your entry by visitors to this website. We are not obligated to use your entry for any purpose, even if it has been selected as a winning entry.

On or around the close of the Entry Period, a panel of judges will review all eligible entries received in each category and select winners of the Championship prizes described below based upon judging criteria described below.

In the event of a tie between any eligible entries, an additional judge will break the tie based on the judging criteria described above. The decisions of the judges are final and binding. If we do not receive a sufficient number of entries meeting the criteria set forth in these Rules, we may, at our discretion, select fewer winners than the number indicated below.

Winners or, in the case of entrants below the legal age of consent, their parent or legal guardians, will be notified via the contact information provided during entry no more than seven (7) days following completion of the judging process with prize claim instructions, including submission deadlines. If a selected winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim a prize, or fails to return any forms, the selected winner will forfeit their prize and, time permitting, an alternate winner will be selected. If you are a potential winner but are not 18yrs of age,  we may require your parent/legal guardian to sign all required forms on your behalf. This process will be repeated no more than three (3) times, as needed. If, after three (3) attempts to select an alternate winner, any unclaimed prizes remain, these prizes will remain unawarded. 

The following prizes will be awarded – 1 Grand Prize & 1 Prize Winners per age category:

Grand Prize Winner: One video chat with the SVEF Committee where the Grand Prize winner will talk about their world and will be presented with prizes (not to exceed an aggregate value of $50.00 USD per student in a group of no more than four Team Members).  They will be highlighted at all of our SVEF events throughout the year.

Finalists (ages 7-13) (1 team): 3,500 Minecoins and various merchandise not to exceed an aggregate value of $30.00 USD per participant in a group of no more than four Team Members.

Finalists (ages 14-18) (1 team): 3,500 Minecoins and various merchandise not to exceed an aggregate value of $30.00 USD per participant in a group of no more than four Team Members.

Finalists (ages 18+) (1 team ): 3,500 Minecoins and various merchandise not to exceed an aggregate value of $30.00 USD per participant in a group of no more than four Team Members.

Finalists (1 business team): The best Business team will be awarded prizes and highlighted in our SVEF Social Media sites and highlighted during all of our SVEF events throughout the year.

The total Approximate Retail Value (ARV) of all prizes combined will not exceed: $50.00 USD per participant

We will only award one (1) prize per Team Member. No more than the number of prizes set forth above will be awarded. No substitution, transfer, or assignment of any prize is permitted, except that Microsoft reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or lesser value in the event the offered prize is unavailable. Prizes are awarded “AS IS” with no warranty of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to, the implied warranties or merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. Prizes will be sent no later than twenty-eight (28) days after winner selection. Prize winners may be required to complete and return prize claim and / or tax forms (“Forms”) within the deadline stated in the winner notification. Taxes on the prize, if any, are the sole responsibility of the winner, who is advised to seek independent counsel regarding the tax implications of accepting a prize. By accepting a prize, you agree that Simi Valley Education Foundation may use your entry, team name and project image and in print, or in any other media, in connection with this Challenge without payment or compensation to you, except where prohibited by law.

The Grand Prize winner’s Main Team Participant #1 will be the primary contact for the Teams meeting.

Each Main Team Participant #1 (as noted in the original entry form) will provide their email and postal addresses and distribute prizes to winning Team Member(s).

The odds of winning are based on the number of eligible entries received.

To the extent allowed by law, by participating in the Challenge you agree to release and hold harmless Simi Valley Education Foundation and its respective parents, partners, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, and agents from any and all liability or any injury, loss, or damage of any kind arising in connection with this Challenge or any prize won.

All local laws apply. Any decision of Simi Valley Education Foundation (SVEF) is final and binding.

We reserve the right to cancel, change, or suspend this Challenge for any reason, including cheating, technology failure, catastrophe, war, or any other unforeseen or unexpected event that affects the integrity of this Challenge, whether human or mechanical. If the integrity of the Challenge cannot be restored, we may select winners from among all eligible entries received before we cancelled, changed or suspended the Challenge.

If you attempt, or we have strong reason to suspect that you have attempted, to compromise the integrity or the legitimate operation of this Challenge by cheating, hacking, creating a bot or other automated program, or by committing fraud in any way, we may seek damages from you to the full extent of the law and you may be banned from participation in future SVEF Challenges. 

Personal data you provide while entering this Challenge will be used by SVEF and/or its agents and prize fulfillers acting on SVEF’s behalf only for the administration and operation of this Challenge (unless you indicated otherwise within your entry form) and in accordance with the P

Governing Laws

This Challenge will be governed by the laws of the State of California, and you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction and venue of the courts of the State of California for any disputes arising out of this Challenge.  Please view Privacy Statement to understand data collection and how it’s being used.

We will post the names of winners online at http://www.svef.org. This list will remain posted for at least 60 days following winner announcement.
