A new award presented this year from the Simi Valley Education Foundation was the Legacy Award – an award given to honor and recognize individuals who have made  remarkable accomplishments and substantial contributions to the students of Simi Valley and our local community.

The first recipients of the Legacy Award were Phil, Mary and Krista McPherson. Together they work selflessly to “do good things” in their daughter Amanda name.  They are committed to supporting the activities that brought joy and hope to her life. This includes providing resources and support for special education students in the public schools in Simi Valley with the creation of Amanda’s Corner. It is a special place in a classroom that consists of the equipment and supplies needed to support the education of the special education students at a particular school. Another major accomplishment that they have succeeded in bringing to fruition was the building of the Big Sky Park Simi Valley Girls Softball Facility – home now to more than 500 girl’s softball participants.  Phil, Mary and Krista McPherson were honored for these enduring legacies. Together they carry this legacy into their daily lives and the lives of our students and community.
